SUBJECT:title
A Traffic Study for the 90-degree intersection of Richard Street and Alameda Drive. Ward 5, Alderman Peters
body
PURPOSE:
To investigate the possible mitigation of the sharp nature of the 90-degree curve where westbound Richard Street curves north and becomes Alameda Drive.
BACKGROUND:
A resident submitted an ACR Case ID 97610 expressing concern for vehicles coming upon this abrupt curve at normal speed, but not expecting it or not expecting it to be so sharp. The intersection has a curvature of radius of about 55-feet, which may be considered the same as at a normal four-way intersection.
DISCUSSION:
While there is no indication of a "sharp curve ahead" on either the westbound approach or the southbound approach this is not uncommon in low speed residential areas. In a review of crash reports in the area there does not appear to be a history that would be improved by the installation of signage.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
No impact.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends approval of traffic study.
