SUBJECT: title
A Traffic Study Request for No Parking Here to Corner Restriction for the Intersection of Wood Street and Hankes Avenue - Ward 1 Alderman Schuler
body
PURPOSE:
A Traffic Study to determine the appropriateness of installing 'No Parking Here to Corner' signage at the intersection of Wood Street and Hankes Avenue
BACKGROUND:
A request was issued from a resident to Alderman Schuler to consider parking restriction at the intersection of Wood Street and Hankes Avenue. The resident was upset with parents from Hermes School parking in the parkway.
DISCUSSION:
While there is evidence of parking in the parkway, in general, the parkway has been reinforced with a gravel base. There are no curbs in this area and the roadway is generally paved at about 26 feet wide. The parkway parking is an accepted practice in this area and should not be restricted. However, it is good practice to ensure proper sight visibility at intersections. There is currently a two stop for Wood Street at Hankes Avenue.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
- Operation would be required to install 8 signs
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends installation of 'No Parking here to corner' signs on all four approaches 30 feet back off cross street edge of pavement.
