SUBJECT:title
A Traffic Study for "Old" Molitor Road. Ward 10, Alderman Johnson.
body
PURPOSE:
A Traffic Study for "Old" Molitor Road regarding truck traffic volumes.
BACKGROUND:
A Resident submitted PS # 1990397 complaining about truck traffic on "Old" Molitor Road from Eola Road to White Oak Circle.
DISCUSSION:
NO TRUCKS OVER 6 TONS signage is in place on Molitor Road AT THE EASTERN ENTRANCE OFF Eola Road, but it is almost overgrown with shrubbery and low hanging tree branches. The western approach has several truck-restriction signs which are visible, including one just off Diehl Road stating "TRUCK TRAFFIC PROHIBITED 800' AHEAD".
Traffic volumes, speed and classification studies revealed that tractor-trailers made up about 3.0% of total classified vehicles in a July 2013 study. In October of this year, that percentage had dropped to less than 0.3%.
Traffic counters on Molitor Road revealed an ADT of 3,000 VPD. Speeds for all vehicles combined were found to be average 36 mph, with a 85th percentile of all vehicles 41 mph and a median of 36 mph.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
Operations would be responsible for trimming the shrubs.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends acceptance of the traffic study, as well as trimming the shrubbery and low hanging tree branches to improve driver visibility of westbound signage.
