A Traffic Study for the Shannon Drive and Marikay Avenue intersection. Ward 1, Alderman Bohman.
body
PURPOSE:
A Traffic Study for the Shannon Drive and Marikay Avenue intersection to determine the need for Yield signage.
BACKGROUND:
A Resident submitted PS # 2364047 expressing concern for speed of traffic through the subject intersection.
DISCUSSION:
The Shannon Drive and Marikay Avenue intersection is uncontrolled, with no traffic control signage. This is a "T" intersection with Shannon Drive ending into Marikay Avenue. Both are classified as neighborhood residential roadways with speed limits of 25 mph. To the south of the intersection, Marikay Avenue is a NO OUTLET cul-de-sac.
Based on the traffic study, the traffic volumes on the Shannon Drive approach are about 580 veh/day and the northern Marikay Avenue approach at 500 veh/day. The peak hour never exceeded a measured 100 veh/hr on either roadway.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
Operations would be responsible for installing the Yield signage.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends installing Yield signage on the eastbound approach of Shannon Avenue.
