Title: A Resolution authorizing an increase in Parking Fees at the Aurora Transportation Center
cover
TO: Mayor Thomas J. Weisner

FROM: Joseph Hopp, Superintendent of Maintenance Services

DATE: April 8, 2015

SUBJECT:
Resolution to obtain City Council approval to increase the commuter parking fees at the Aurora Transportation Center.

PURPOSE:
To adequately fund maintenance and repairs of the Aurora Transportation Center's building and grounds.

BACKGROUND:
The Aurora Transportation Center ("ATC") located at 233 N. Broadway Ave. has a total of 1,273 commuter parking spaces which consists of the following; 818 daily, 428 permit, and 27 handicap spaces. The current ATC commuter permit parking fee is $30.00 per month and daily parking fee is $1.50 per day. The current daily commuter parking fee was established in 1997 and the monthly permit parking fee in 2008.

DISCUSSION:
The combined ATC and RT 59 Transit Centers fund balance is $1,000,000.

In addition, to increased maintenance cost due to aging facilities, projects planned this year at both transit centers will significantly reduce or eliminate any fund balance. Some of these projects included at the ATC are the engineering and redesign of the Broadway Ave. entrance ($132,000), sidewalk and light foundation concrete replacement ($100,000), and east platform drive resurfacing ($135,000). Future capital improvements include security camera replacement and interior improvements. At RT 59 a parking lot expansion of 400 spaces and reconfiguration of the parking lot entrances will be constructed this year.

Should the proposed recommendation be approved at the ATC the daily parking fee will increase from $1.50 to $2.00 and the monthly permit fee from $30.00 to $40.00 will match the current parking fees of the RT. 59 Transit Center.

Metra has been notified of the proposed parking fee increases for the ATC and concur that an increase is merited to have the sufficient funds to maintain the stations and parking lots

IMPACT STATEMENT:
The increase in the parking fees will provide the...
