TO: Mayor Richard C. Irvin
FROM: Joseph Jones, Emergency Management Coordinator
DATE: 11/3/2017
SUBJECT:
Approval of the Intergovernmental Agreement with the Illinois Emergency Management Agency to receive funds from the Emergency Management Performance Grant.
PURPOSE:
The Intergovernmental Agreement will allow the City of Aurora to receive funds in the amount of $52,973.57 of federal funds.
BACKGROUND:
The City of Aurora Emergency Management Agency has been participating in the Emergency Management Performance Grant Program since 2002. The 2017 grant application was submitted and approved by the Illinois Emergency Management Agency. The Aurora Emergency Management Agency has maintained accreditation with IEMA through the Emergency Management Performance Grant in order to qualify to receive funds for the period from October 1, 2016 to December 31, 2017.
DISCUSSION:
Due to the new guidelines outlined in the Grant Accountability and Transparency Act (GATA), the Illinois Emergency Management Agency requires an updated Intergovernmental Grant Agreement. As the recipient of these funds, the City of Aurora Emergency Management Agency must use the funds for the purposes set forth in the Agreement. These funds are used in support of Emergency Management salaries, training, and equipment.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
The receipt of the EMPG funds help offset the operational cost of the Emergency Management Agency budget.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
I request the proposed resolution be adopted.
