SUBJECT:
A Resolution appointing Juan Fernandez to the Aurora Public Art Commission.

DISCUSSION:
The Aurora Public Art Commission (APAC) is a nine (9) member board tasked with overseeing the David L. Pierce Art & History Center and the Grand Army of the Republic.

The APAC is required to have a blend of educators and local representatives of the business community in addition to artists. The nominee for this appointment is both an artist and an educator, with experience teaching photography at both Waubonsee Community College and Elgin Community College.

There are currently vacancies on the commission.

RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended the City Council approve the appointment of Juan Fernandez to the Aurora Public Art Commission.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and

WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and

WHEREAS, the commission is in need of members; and

WHEREAS, it is the Mayor's desire that Juan Fernandez be appointed to said board.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, hereby approve appointment of Juan Fernandez, Aurora, IL to the Aurora Public Art Commission.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the term of Juan Fernandez shall expire on November 30, 2020, however, in any event, he shall continue to serve until his respective replacement has been approved by the Council.
