SUBJECT:
A Resolution approving an intergovernmental agreement between the City of Aurora and the Aurora Housing Authority to provide a reciprocal reporting system between the Aurora Housing Authority and the Aurora Police Department.
PURPOSE:
This agreement will allow effective and efficient communication between the two government entities to promote a safe, healthy, and violence-free living environment for the public housing tenants of the Aurora Housing Authority .").
BACKGROUND:
The Aurora Housing Authority has traditionally requested records from the Aurora Police Department to assist in determining whether current Aurora Housing Authority tenants have been involved in criminal activity that could potentially affect their eligibility for public housing assistance through the Aurora Housing Authority. This agreement sets into place an efficient method in requesting and receiving reports that they may legally receive.
DISCUSSION:
This agreement provides a system that is efficient for both parties and describes what information can and cannot be shared. Additionally, with the efficient process, both entities will be able to quickly address issues that are occurring at the Aurora Housing Authority and the Aurora Housing Authority can follow their rules and regulations set forth by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
The impact of this agreement will tremendously improve communication between agencies and assist the Aurora Housing Authority in their mission of providing a safe, healthy, and violence-free living environment for the public housing tenants of the Aurora Housing Authority.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
The Aurora Police Department requests the approval of this Resolution and agreement and for the Mayor, or his designee, to sign the agreement upon approval of City Council.
