A Parking Study for Liberty Street east of Farnsworth Avenue. Ward 7, Alderman Hart-Burns.
body
PURPOSE:
A Parking Study on Liberty Street from N. Farnsworth Avenue to Beckwith Street to determine the need for possible parking restrictions.
BACKGROUND:
A Resident submitted PS # 2953214 expressing concern about congested two-way traffic when vehicles are parked on both sides of Liberty Street.
DISCUSSION:
Liberty Street has full curb and gutter, with asphalt in good condition. There are no sidewalks except by the church on the west end at N. Farnsworth Avenue. Liberty is classified as a Major Collector, and has a 30 mph Speed Limit. The 29.5-ft. wide roadway is marked with a double-yellow centerline. Restrictions on parking have not been installed anywhere along this stretch, but that appears to work well. The block going west from Vermont to Farnsworth has parking on the south side available in the paved parkway by the church. The northern side consists of a right-turn lane, where vehicles generally avoid parking.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
No impact.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff does not recommend addition of parking restrictions .
