TO: Mayor Thomas J. Weisner
FROM: Wendy McCambridge, City Clerk
DATE: July 5, 2016
SUBJECT:
Resolution Establishing the Maximum Number of City of Aurora Liquor Licenses by Class.
PURPOSE:
To maintain the number of Class C - Package Liquor for the total maximum number of Class C as 42.
BACKGROUND:
This request is presented in accordance with the 2011 amendment to the City's Liquor Ordinance, specifically Section 6-9(a), which charges the City Council with the authority to determine the number of licenses available in each classification.
DISCUSSION:
Grocery Guys LLC, dba Save-A- Lot located at 212 N. Lake Street, Aurora, Illinois, 60506 submitted a liquor license application regarding a Class C license for the purpose of selling to the general public alcoholic liquor in original packages only, for consumption off the premises where sold.
Save-a-Lot is requesting a change from the existing Class G license to a class C license.
Attached is the application submitted for your consideration. If approved, this resolution would increase the number of allowable liquor licenses as indicated in the accompanying Exhibit A to allow for the issuance of the license by the Commissioner. City staff has been working with the business owner to ensure that all requirements for a liquor license, as set forth in Chapter 6 of the City's Code of Ordinances, are met.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
The proposed resolution presents an opportunity to further the City of Aurora's economic development.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
I am recommending that this resolution be referred to the Government Operations Committee for consideration at its meeting to be held on July 12, 2015.
