SUBJECT:
A Resolution Authorizing the Appointment of Richard Veenstra as Corporation Counsel.

PURPOSE:
To obtain authorization to appoint Richard Veenstra as Corporation Counsel.

BACKGROUND:
The Corporation Counsel position became vacant on April 4, 2017 with the retirement of Alayne Weingartz. The Corporation Counsel is a city officer that is appointed by the Mayor with the consent of the City Council.

DISCUSSION:
Human Resources advertised and recruited from several sources and municipal websites. Forty (40) applications were received and three (3) finalists were interviewed. After a thorough assessment and careful consideration of his education, skills and experience, Richard Veenstra was selected for the position.

Richard Veenstra received his Juris Doctor in 2003 and has been working in the field of Law since that time. Richard has extensive local and governmental law enforcement experience, most recently working for DuPage County State's Attorney's Office for twelve (12) years in the Criminal and Civil Bureau.

That the City Council authorize the appointment of Richard Veenstra as Corporation Counsel for the City of Aurora.
