TO: Mayor John Laesch
FROM: Nydia Molina, Assistant Corporation Counsel, Law Department
DATE: May 13, 2026
SUBJECT:
A Resolution extending the two-year agreement for tow firms currently on the City of Aurora Tow Roster that expire on June 30, 2026, as authorized by Chapter 46 of the City of Aurora Code of Ordinances until amendments to Chapter 46 can be reviewed and presented to City Councill
PURPOSE:
Chapter 46, Section 46.4 states that the tow roster is effective for a period of two (2) years. The current tow agreements expire on June 30, 2026. The Aurora Police Department and the Law Department are currently reviewing Chapter 46 and anticipate several changes to Chapter 46.
BACKGROUND:
Chapter 46 calls for the city to maintain a "Tow Roster" of firms who have been selected and designated to provide services for the Aurora Police Department. Chapter 46 has not been reviewed extensively since 2018 to address maximum tow and storage charges. Amendments and updates are needed to align with current policies and protocols.
DISCUSSION:
This proposed resolution, if passed, would allow Staff to review appropriate and significant changes without impacting the current tow firms currently on the roster. Staff anticipate restructuring the Chapter to provide more clarity, consistency and needed updates.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
This will resolution would not impact the general public or the current tow roster. The tow roster would remain the same.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
I request the proposed resolution be adopted.
