SUBJECT:
A Resolution appointing Karina Suarez-Darden and Daniel Tinajero and reappointing Barbara Hernandez, Blanca Saavedra, Casildo Cuevas, Melissa Sosa and Marisela Fonseca to the Aurora Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board.

DISCUSSION:
The Aurora Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board (AHHAB) is a non-partisan, community-based, seventeen (17) member advisory board that supports and participates in activities that promote a deeper understanding of the Hispanic community. In addition to supporting community-wide events in Aurora, the AHHAB also hosts two major annual events, El Dia de los Ninos and a Community Breakfast. In 2015, the board began to assist in hosting Fiestas Patrias. There are currently vacancies and expired terms on the board.

RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended the City Council approve the proposed appointments and reappointments to the Aurora Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and

WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and

WHEREAS, vacancies and expired terms currently exist on the Aurora Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board; and

WHEREAS, it is the Mayor's desire that the recommended candidates be appointed and reappointed to said board.
