A Parking Study for Lawndale Avenue in the western 300 block. Ward 6, Alderman Saville.
body
PURPOSE:
A Parking Study for Lawndale Avenue in the western 300 block to determine whether to install Yellow Curb for driveways.
BACKGROUND:
Residents submitted verbal complaints of vehicles parking in front of their driveways, too close to corners, and in front of fire hydrants.
DISCUSSION:
Lawndale Avenue in the western 300 block is the normal residential roadway width of 29.5 ft. Speed limit is the neighborhood residential 25 mph.
Hill Elementary School recently began major re-construction, part of which closed the school parking lot, forcing drivers to park in the surrounding streets. Unfortunately, the resulting congestion has resulted in increased parking on Lawndale, with some cars parking within the clearance zones of driveways, fire hydrants, and intersections.
The issue is temporary and staff has had discussions with the School District. Staff is relying on the dialogue with staff of Hill School to improve the situation.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
Operations would be responsible for installing parking restriction signage and Yellow Curbs.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff placing this item on hold for 6 months.
