FROM: Kenneth Nelson, Information Systems Coordinator

DATE: June 9, 2014

SUBJECT:
Resolution Authorizing the Annual Renewal of Checkpoint Firewall Platforms and Related Software and Peripherals Maintenance Services with Guardian Technologies, Inc., Aurora, Illinois in the Amount of $62,277.24 for the Aurora Police Department.

PURPOSE:
The Police Department's current firewall has been in service for 5 years. This hardware is not currently in need of an equipment refresh and is still a viable hardware platform, it will however; need software updates and code modifications made available through this support agreement. This purchase would renew the Check Point firewall and related software and peripheral support and maintenance contract for another year.

BACKGROUND:
This annual maintenance contract will allow us to continue to stay in compliance with recent and emerging state and federal security regulations (CJIS - Criminal Justice Information Services) as well as provide data protection and business continuity in two geographic locations, which is a required level of resiliency for public safety.

DISCUSSION:
The City's annual base budget provides sufficient monies for this purchase of $62,277.24, in account 101-1233-419.38-26 (General Fund).

We are putting this request forward as a sole source based on the fact that Guardian Technologies is the incumbent partner with Check Point on our contract; the manufacturer is extending this vendor additional discounts that are not made available to other resellers of the same product. Please see attached "Partner-Account Certification" letter

IMPACT STATEMENT:
There should be no impact on other departments from processing this renewal.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
I request the proposed resolution be adopted.
