body
PURPOSE:
To perform Traffic Study for the N. East Avenue and Claim Street intersection, measuring warrants for a 3-way STOP.
BACKGROUND:
A Resident submitted ACR Case ID 112615 requesting a three-way STOP for the N. East Avenue and Claim Street intersection as a way to slow down traffic on Claim Street.
DISCUSSION:
The intersection does not have either Yield or Stop signage. Speed Limit on the Residential roadway of N. East Avenue is 25 mph. Speed Limit on the Major Collector of Claim Street is 30 mph.
There is a curve on Claim Street 230-ft to the east of the intersection. The westbound approach to the curve on Claim Street has a yellow diamond curve(W1-2 to the right) sign about 220-ft from the curve. The eastbound direction has no warning sign for the curve.
Claim Street has an ADT of 4,350, while N. East Avenue has an ADT of about 1,200 vpd. The Mean (or Average) Speed on Claim Street is 24mph with a Median Speed of 24 mph, and an 85th Percentile Speed of 28 mph.
The intersection does not warrant an all-way stop installation.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
Operations will be responsible for installing the single STOP sign on N. East Avenue approaching Claim Street.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends installing a STOP sign on N. East Avenue.
