SUBJECT: title
A Traffic Study at the Spruce St. and N. Fordham Av. intersection for the possibility of installing all-way Stop signage. Ward 4, Alderman Donnell
body
PURPOSE:
To determine the possibility of installing all-way STOP signage at the intersection of N. Fordham Avenue and Spruce Street.
BACKGROUND:
The intersection has a two-way STOP, with Spruce Street required to stop while approaching N. Fordham Avenue. NO PARKING THIS SIDE signage is in place for the West side of N. Fordham Avenue while NO PARKING DURING SCHOOL SESSION signage is in place on the East side of N. Fordham Avenue. The eastern stretch of Spruce Street has NO PARKING THIS SIDE for the North side while the South side is without parking restrictions. The western stretch of Spruce Street continuing towards the High School has NO PARKING DURING SCHOOL SESSION signage on both sides. Crosswalks are in place on the northern portion and the eastern portion of the intersection.
DISCUSSION:
Based on the Traffic Studies, neither the traffic volumes nor crash history warrant the installation of an all-way Stop.
Traffic volumes on all approaches are fairly equal at approximately 350 veh/day with the peak hour not exceeding 80 veh/hr on any of the approaches. The Manual of Uniform Traffic Control recommends approximately 4 times the shown peak hour volume before consideration of an all-way Stop. Neither street is a major school bus routes.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
Based on Staff recommendation no impact.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
The Staff recommends denial
