A Resolution Authorizing the Appointment of Kristen Ziman as Chief of Police for the City of Aurora, Illinois.
PURPOSE:
To obtain City Council approval of the appointment of Kristen Ziman to the position of Chief of Police for the Aurora Police Department.
BACKGROUND:
Following the retirement of Chief Greg Thomas in November of 2015, the Mayor invited all police officers holding the rank of Lieutenant or Commander who were interested in applying for the position of Police Chief to submit a resume. Four (4) internal candidates submitted resumes and were interviewed.
DISCUSSION:
The process was extensive, and included surveys, presentations and multiple interviews. Following the selection process, Mayor Weisner has recommended Commander Kristen Ziman to serve as Police Chief for the City of Aurora. If approved, Kristen will become the first female Chief of Police for the City of Aurora.
A copy of her resume is attached for your review.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is recommended this item be forwarded to the City Council for approval.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, a vacancy exists in the position of Chief of Police by reason of the retirement of the former Chief; and
