A Traffic Study for Princeton Avenue in the 3500 block. Ward 10, Alderman Johnson.
body
PURPOSE:
A Traffic Study for Princeton Avenue in the 3500 block to determine actual vehicle Speeds.
BACKGROUND:
A Resident submitted ACR Case ID 117855 expressing concern about vehicle speeds in the 3500 block of Princeton Avenue.
DISCUSSION:
The width of Princeton Avenue is a wide 34.5-ft. Princeton Avenue was designed with several curves for Traffic Calming. A Traffic Study was conducted (June 2015) revealing Average Speeds of 29-30 mph. The 85th percentile is 36-37 mph. The ADT is 1,200 vpd.
While the minimum qualifications for traffic calming were met, this was aided by current construction on Ogden Avenue. Staff believes it would be more prudent provide a temporary solution until the construction is complete and then reevaluate as needed.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
Operations will be required to install temporary speed hump.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends placement of a temporary speed hump.
