PURPOSE:
Youth & Senior Services is requesting permission to conduct the Aurora Sports Festival on Friday, May 8, 2015 from 8:30am to 3:00pm to promote May as National Physical Fitness and Sports Month.
 
BACKGROUND:
The 21st annual event will draw approximately 1,000 middle school students and in past years has been held with cooperation from the Fox Valley Park District, Aurora Township, local schools and organizations, and volunteers.  The opening/closing ceremonies are planned to be held at Phillips Park.  East High School, Parkside Lanes, and the Aurora Skate Center are the other locations utilized for competitions.
 
DISCUSSION:
The Sports Festival focuses on a variety of healthy sports competitions for local middle school students who have an A or B grade in their Physical Education classes. There are sufficient funds are available in 101-1370-440.50-91 and 50-84.
 
IMPACT STATEMENT:
City services requested are: Parks Operations and Maintenance, pavilion, fields, courts, parking, waste bins, Visitor's Center, golf course and carts, port a potty's, transport and set-up/take down of basketball goals.  APD coordination of security operations.  AFD Paramedics on site with equipment/mini and large mobile transport.  Special Events communication devices use.  EMA monitoring before and on-site of inclement weather as needed.  Use of tents, tables, chairs, microphone, and sound system.
