Resolution Authorizing the Purchase and Installation of Bidirectional Amplifiers (BDA) at Waubonsee Valley High and West Aurora High School Facilities in the Total Amount of $39,296.00 from AMK Services, Johnstown, Ohio.

PURPOSE:
This equipment is designed to take the Public Safety radio frequencies available outside the building and rebroadcast them to places within the building that need improved communication capabilities. This need to enhance the coverage of the radio system is only required in limited situations. We see this issue typically in buildings of older concrete construction or heavily remodeled concrete and steel buildings.
BACKGROUND:
Equipment of this type is currently installed at:
Copley Hospital - ER
Presence Hospital - ER
Aurora Police Department - Booking
This equipment increases the quality of communications for the City's Public Safety Radio System within these facilities. All of this equipment was installed by AMK-Services as part of the original Harris Radio System purchase. Their performance has exceeded our expectations throughout.
DISCUSSION:
The project cost for Waubonsee Valley is $19,279.00. The project cost for West Aurora High school is $20,017.00. Funding for these projects is covered under Federal Forfeiture Funds 216.3536.421.74-20. An affidavit of sole source for professional services is included in this packet. AMK-Services, does not have outstanding debt with the City.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
This equipment provides improved coverage for both the Police and Fire Departments. It will only impact radio system coverage within these building during the turn up phase after installation.
Impact to other City departments will be minimal.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
I would ask the Finance Committee to authorize the purchase and installation of this equipment by AMK-Services.
