Aurora Downtown is requesting permission to close Stolp Avenue between Downer and Galena for the Stolp Island Block Party on Friday, August 3, 2018 from 3:00 to 11:00 pm..
body
PURPOSE:
This is in conjunction with First Friday, a monthly art crawl and music showcase in downtown Aurora. Closing the street will create a block party feel which will include several food trucks/vendors and music at Millennium Plaza.
BACKGROUND:
This is the second year for this event.
DISCUSSION:
Closing the street allows for larger crowds without the added issue of having to deal with vehicular and pedestrian traffic mixing with one another.
There are no shows at the Paramount Theatre as of the writing of this memo.
AD is working with the City Clerk’s Office on allowing beer and wine on the closed portion of the street. Leland Legends would be the provider and server.
This event received a NFF Grant which will cover the COI.
Organizers will be responsible for notifying businesses and residents of the street closure, placing and removing “No Parking Signs” along the designated area, placing and removing street closure barricades, garbage pick-up and disposal, placing and removal of picnic tables and benches.
Set up will begin at 3:00, the event is from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
City services requested:
Street Department: Barricades at Stolp and Downer and Stolp and Galena
Electrical: Access to available power on the west side of Stolp and the MP Gazebo
Downtown Maintenance: Millennium Plaza clean, access to picnic tables, benches, garbage cans and dumpster
APD-determine if a dedicated officer is necessary.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
I request the proposed event be forwarded to the Government Operations Committee for review and approval.
