TO: Mayor Thomas J. Weisner

FROM: Sandra Strueber, Chief of Staff, Aldermen's Office

DATE: February 12, 2014

SUBJECT:
A Resolution Authorizing the 2014 Ward Neighborhood Cleanup and Shred Programs for the City of Aurora.

PURPOSE:
To obtain the City Council's approval to continue the Neighborhood Cleanup and Shred Programs in 2014.

BACKGROUND:
As in the past, Aldermen have earmarked funds to spend on neighborhood cleanups in their wards. These cleanup days are scheduled throughout the spring, summer and fall to allow residents additional opportunities to dispose of unwanted items in or around their homes.

DISCUSSION:
The Ward Neighborhood Cleanup days are scheduled to continue in 2014 in Wards 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9 and 10 beginning in April and continuing through October 2014. Various vendors will be contacted to provide disposal services and the costs will be determined by the amount of debris hauled away. Wards 2, 8, 9 and 10 will hold a shred event in September for their constituents. Funds for these projects are available and will be allocated from each individual Ward Budget as follows: Ward Budgets (311) (312) (313) (315) (316) (317) (318) (319) and (320) - 1727-424.36-10.

IMPACT STATEMENT:
These events are staffed by volunteers where needed and the individual Ward Alderman oversee the operations from start to completion. There are no street closures nor other city staff involved other than the Aldermen's Office staff.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
I request the proposed resolution be adopted.
