SUBJECT:title
A Traffic Study for York Court. Ward 10, Alderman Johnson
body
PURPOSE:
To evaluate York Court for One-Way signage and parking signage.
BACKGROUND:
A Resident submitted an E-mail to Alderman Lynne Johnson expressing concern of the narrowness of her roadway, which is shaped in a loop resembling half a paper-clip.
DISCUSSION:
The Court, formed like a bent coat-hanger and is generally 23-ft wide with extremely low volumes. The outside of the loop (or the home side of the loop) has almost no parking space because all the drive approaches are double-wide and to park between driveways would violate existing ordinance. Staff has not observed any parking on the outside of the cul de sac curve.
The inside of the loop has a continuous curb and appears to be utilized by the residents sporadically. The roadway width is adequate to park on the inside of the cul de dac and maintain the low volume of traffic
The Resident suggests making the roadway one-way, which may simplify things and improve safety when backing up, but not totally eliminate the lack of street parking.
Staff does not recommend a conversion to one way at this time. However if the entire cul de sac would petition for the conversion staff would reconsider.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
No impact at this time.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends acceptance of traffic study
