Athziry Dia de Muertos is requesting permission to stage Day of the Dead on Benton between River and Stolp on Sunday, November 1 from 9:00 am to 2:30 pm.

PURPOSE:
Day of the Dead is a celebration of Mexican culture through visual arts and performance. The holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died, and help support their spiritual journey.
BACKGROUND:
This is the 6th year the event has been held in Aurora. The organizers are partnering with SciTech this year and holding the event on Benton directly in front of their building. Performers include Ballet Folklorico, Aztec Dancers, Simply Destinee and others. Several food and merchandise vendors are also expected to participate. Anticipated attendance is approximately 200 with another 25 volunteers assisting.
DISCUSSION:
There are no direct cost associated with this event. Certificate of Insurance is pending.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
City services requested are the following:
Street Department: 1 class lll and 2 class l barricades at River and Benton
1 class lll and 4 class l barricades at Stolp and Benton
All barricades to be dropped off on Friday, October 30 and picked up on Monday, November 2.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
I request the proposed event be forwarded to the Government Operations Committee for review and approval.
