A Traffic Study to determine whether Howell Place should have a certain curb space marked with No Parking signage or Yellow Curb.  Ward 3, Alderman Mesiacos
body
PURPOSE:
To determine appropriate parking regulations for a short stretch of unmarked curb on the southern side of 409 Howell Place.

BACKGROUND:
A resident submitted ACR Case ID 84298 expressing concern of vehicles parking in the space between their driveway and the driveway to the South.  The resident points out that there is not enough room for a vehicle to park there without blocking a portion of each driveway, clearly violating the no-parking-within 5-feet of a driveway.

DISCUSSION:
This stretch or curb is not long enough to be a valid parking space, being less than the length of a typical vehicle plus the required parking distance from a driveway.  Typically, a vehicle that parks there will overlap each driveway by about a foot, clearly not a desirable situation.

IMPACT STATEMENT:
The Street Department will need funding to apply the Yellow Paint to the curbs when weather permits.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends Yellow Paint be applied in the standard fashion; 5-feet stretching from the edges of the two driveways involved, weather permitting.
