TO: Mayor Richard C. Irvin
FROM: Don Davids, Assistant Fire Chief
DATE: October 3, 2017
SUBJECT:
A resolution authorizing the acceptance of the lowest responsive bid for the roof replacement project at AFD fire station 12 in the amount of $50,500 from Malcor roofing of Illinois for the Aurora Fire Department.
PURPOSE:
To maintain COA buildings and prevent wind and water damage.
BACKGROUND:
Fire station 12 is at 2424 Hafenrichter Rd in Aurora, the station was completed in early 1999 and is exposed to wind from several directions. Over the past 2 years numerous shingles have blown off of the roof during wind events. Repair have been made with limited success. After consultation with several roofing repair companies, the decision was to tear off the existing roof and install a new roof utilizing a more durable material.
DISCUSSION:
Any fire station is a visible symbol in the community as well as an asset of the City of Aurora that needs to be properly maintained and protected from the elements. A bid specification was developed and published according to COA purchasing requirements. At a bid opening on October 3, 2017, (17-43) the lowest responsive bid was from Malcor Roofing of Illinois in the amount of $50,500.
Funds are available in account # 255-3033-422.38-05 in the COA 2017 budget as an approved decision package.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
This roof project will have a positive effect on the long term appearance and life of fire station 12.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
That the finance committee authorize a resolution accepting the lowest responsive bid from Malcor Roofing of Illinois in the amount of $50,500 for the roofing replacement project for fire station 12 for the Aurora Fire Department.
