Requesting permission for the Aurora Veterans Advisory Council to stage an Update and Dedication to the Veterans Monument at Phillips Park on Sunday, May 28, 2017 from 10:00 to 11:00 am.

PURPOSE:
The Aurora Veterans Advisory Council will be adding five (5) additional names to the monument at the Sunken Gardens in Phillips Park.
 
BACKGROUND:
Several years ago the Aurora Veterans Advisory Council raised funds for a monument and since have added names as necessary.
 
DISCUSSION:
When additional names are added to the monument it is done as a solemn ceremony with honor and dignity. 
The event will be open to the public and is part of AVAC's second annual Vets Week in Aurora.  
 
There will be a small reception in the Stover Center afterwards and the committee is working closely with Park staff on the event. 
 
IMPACT STATEMENT:
AVAC is working directly with Dan Anderson in the Parks Department on all logistical needs which should be minimal.
 
RECOMMENDATIONS:
 I request the proposed event be forwarded to the Government Operations Committee for review and approval.
