SUBJECT:title
A Parking Study for the 5th Avenue and Jackson Street intersection. Ward 3, Alderman Mesiacos.
body
PURPOSE:
A Parking Study for the 5th Avenue and Jackson Street intersection to determine whether to install No-Parking-Here-To-Corner signage in addition to the existing yellow curb markings.
BACKGROUND:
A verbal request was made to study whether No Parking signage should be added to the intersection of 5th Avenue and Jackson Street.
DISCUSSION:
Jackson Street is a major collector to the north of the intersection, and a minor collector to the south. Fifth Avenue is a major collector to the east of the intersection, and a minor collector to the west. All approaches to the intersection are 25 mph, except for Fifth Avenue approaching from the east which is 30 mph. Jackson Street has a yellow dashed centerline, while Fifth Avenue has markings only to the east of the intersection. All curbs at the intersection are painted yellow as at least 18-ft. to prohibit parking too close to the corner. In the winter, the Yellow curb may be covered with ice and snow, raising the question of whether to add No Parking signage to all approaches to the intersection.
Staff is recommending adding No Parking Here to Corner signage on all approaches at a minimum of 25-feet from each approach.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
Operations will be responsible for installing the signage.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends installing NO PARKING HERE TO CORNER SIGNAGE on all corners except the approach from the east which is already signed NO PARKING.
