SUBJECT:title
A Traffic Study for Asbury Drive with regards to pedestrian movements. Ward 7, Alderman Hart-Burns
body
PURPOSE:
To determine the need for further Pedestrian Crossing signage on Asbury Drive from Liberty Street to E. New York Street.

BACKGROUND:
A resident submitted ACR Case ID 92803 expressing desire for Pedestrian Crossing signage at each and every intersection on Asbury Drive from Liberty Street to E. New York Street.

DISCUSSION:
Asbury Drive has been classified as a Residential roadway with a Speed Limit of 25 mph.  The main southern intersection (at Asbury Drive and Saratoga Drive) has existing three-way STOP signage, pavement markings for each crosswalk, plus there are Speed Humps in the vicinity.  The northern intersection (at Asbury Drive and Kendridge Lane) has a two-way STOP and is also in the vicinity of a Speed Hump.

The pedestrian signage requested is not to be installed at stop controlled approaches per the Manual of Uniform Traffic Devices Section 7B.12.

The location requested just south of Liberty has a median on the southbound non-stop controlled approach which would make the sign non visible if properly located.  The only appropriate location for the in road sign would be the northbound approach to Kendridge Lane.

IMPACT STATEMENT:
Operations will be required to install inroad pedestrian sign.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends installation of one in road stop for pedestrian signs on the northbound approach to Kendridge Lane on Asbury Drive.
