PURPOSE:
To seek Government Operations approval to stage and present a street dedication for Hall of Fame Baseball Champion, James "Deacon" White. The street dedication would take place on Sunday, September 29, 2013 at 2:00 p.m.

BACKGROUND:
JAMES "DEACON" WHITE 1847-1939. Legendary baseball player from 1871-1890, resided at 221 S. Calumet St. from 1922-1939. The best catcher of his era, he caught the first pitch and recorded the first hit in the first professional baseball game in 1871. He led the Chicago White Stockings, later renamed the Chicago Cubs, to their first pennant in 1876, the first year of the National League. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2013.

The Street will be named James "Deacon" White Way.

The location of the street dedication would be on the 200th block of Calumet at the intersection of Calumet Avenue and Marseillaise Place. The closure of the street would be necessary for a safe environment. Expected attendance is approximately 100 guests.

DISCUSSION:
Requesting the approval of the street dedication will provide community awareness and education of Aurora's Pioneers.

IMPACT STATEMENT:
Monies for this event have been appropriated in the 2013 budget (101 1320 450 50 69). Special Events is requesting the assistance of Operations/ Street Division? Sign Shop and Community Service.

* 1 Type III barricades ( No through traffic) and 2 standards placed on Friday, 27th at Kensington and Calumet and Marseillaise Calumet ( 2 corners)
