SUBJECT:title

A Parking Study for 325 Jackson Street.  Ward 3, Alderman Mesiacos.

body

PURPOSE:

A Parking Study for 325 Jackson Street, to determine if yellow curb paint is needed, to prevent vehicles parking within five feet of the driveway.

BACKGROUND:

Alderman Mesiacos received a resident complaint regarding vehicles parking adjacent to the driveway at 325 Jackson Street, making it difficult to enter and exit.

DISCUSSION:

Vehicles were observed parking near the 325 Jackson Street driveway, with approximately five feet of distance from vehicle bumper to driveway.  This may not always be the case, in which the resident can contact APD for enforcement, without the presence of yellow curb paint, according to City Ordinance Chapter 27, Article V, Section 27-168. The City's Street Department already maintains miles of painted yellow curb and we are trying not to add more, if possible.

IMPACT STATEMENT:

APD resources.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

Staff recommends using random, selective enforcement by APD, to discourage vehicles from parking with five feet or blocking driveways, before considering other measures such as curb painting.
