A Resolution Authorizing the Appointment of Marissa Spencer as the Assistant Corporation Counsel.
PURPOSE:
To obtain authorization to appoint Marissa Spencer as the Assistant Corporation Counsel.
BACKGROUND:
The Assistant Corporation Counsel position became vacant on August 4, 2017 due to a resignation. In accordance with the City of Aurora Ordinance, the position is appointed by the Mayor with the consent of the City Council.
DISCUSSION:
Human Resources advertised and recruited for an Assistant Corporation Counsel on several websites. Thirty four (34) applications were received, nine applicants were chosen for initial interviews and 4 applicants had final interviews.
After a thorough assessment and consideration of education, skills and experience, Marissa Spencer was selected for the position.
Marissa Spencer has a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management and Administration from Bradley University and a Juris Doctor from Northern Illinois. She has been working in the legal field since 2008. Marissa brings both private and public sector experience, most recently working for the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office. Her background and working knowledge will be beneficial to moving the law department forward pursuant to future department objectives.
