SUBJECT: title
Traffic Study Request for Meadowridge Drive to Determine Eligibility for Traffic Calming south from 75th Street - Ward 8, Alderman Mervine
body
PURPOSE:
To conduct a traffic Traffic Study to determine eligibility for Traffic Calming on Meadowridge Drive going south from 75th Street.
BACKGROUND:
An ACR Case ID72476 was submitted by a resident requesting some form of Speed Control on Meadowridge Drive going south from 75th Street. She states that she is surprised at the amount of speeding vehicles, adding that a vehicle crashed into a tree on 7/3/13.
DISCUSSION:
This section of roadway has been brought before Government operations on a least two occasion in the last four years. Meadowridge is classified as a collector and in addition to providing access to 75th Street it is a main access for Still Middle School. A Volume/Speed study performed in August of 2013 prior to school opening. The ADT (Average daily Traffic count) was found to be a steady 3,100 vehicles per day. The Average Mean Speed was measured as 31 mph with the 85 % Speed being 36 mph. While based on classification, length, volume and speed this section is eligible for traffic calming, we do not recommend any permanent installations. The area of main concern has limited driveways and while an accident was referenced, we have had very few reports of crashes in this area. If the Alderman would like to consider a speed feedback sign staff would have no objections to an installation for southbound only.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
Based on staff recommendation no impact
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends denial
