BACKGROUND:

Seth Egger was a student at Aurora Central Catholic High School who passed away after an automobile accident.  In 2015, members of Seth's family and relatives worked with St. Paul's Lutheran Church as the sponsor organization to hold the 1st 5K memorial run walk at Phillips Park to raise funds for a scholarship in Seth's name.  The organizers list 288 people as participants in 2015.

DISCUSSION:

The organizers have formed the Seth Egger Memorial Fund Not for Profit Private Foundation with 501 (c) (3) status to serve as sponsor for this proposed event in 2016.  The organizers have been asked to provide the GO Committee with a brief explanation of the scholarship process, number of awards, amounts, etc.)  They are expecting 300 people to participate in 2016 with 40-50 staff/volunteers.

IMPACT STATEMENT:

Services will be needed from the City of Aurora Police Department Traffic Control Division, and the Parks and Recreation Division for use of the park, main pavilion, and trash barrels.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

Please forward to the Government Operations Committee for approval with the understanding that with the exception of incidental expenditures needed to carry out the event, the funds raised from the event will be distributed as scholarships to students.
