SUBJECT:
Resolution to approve the attachment of City of Aurora fiber to two ComEd poles at Cross Street and River Street to allow OnLight Aurora to extend fiber optic cable plant to the River Street Plaza commercial properties along South River Street south of Benton Street. There will be a yearly charge of $28.94 per pole ($57.88). Attachment base fee will increase 3% per year.
PURPOSE:
Extend the City of Aurora's fiber optic cable plant to the River Street Plaza commercial properties along South River Street south of Benton Street to allow OnLight Aurora to extend fiber optic cable plant to the River Street Plaza commercial properties along South River Street south of Benton Street
BACKGROUND:
In 2017 the City Council approved resolution R17-356 from Bill Wiet to allow for the further development and reuse of both vacant and occupied commercial spaces in River Street Plaza by providing benefits of utilizing the City's current fiber optic network. The ComEd Master Service Agreement that the Mayor signed (R18-195) requires City Council approval prior to attaching City of Aurora fiber to ComEd poles.
DISCUSSION:
This will allow for the further development and reuse of both vacant and occupied commercial spaces in River Street Plaza by providing benefits of utilizing the City's current fiber optic network.
Funds available for the pole attachment fees in Account 101-1380-419-38-05 - Repairs & Mtce. Services/Building and Grounds, with a balance of $454,000.00.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
This request will have a positive impact on economic development by allowing development and reuse of both vacant and occupied commercial spaces in River Street Plaza by providing benefits of utilizing the City's current fiber optic network.
