TO: Mayor Thomas J. Weisner

FROM: Wendy McCambridge, City Clerk

DATE: October 13, 2015

SUBJECT:
Resolution Establishing the Maximum Number of City of Aurora Liquor Licenses by Class.

PURPOSE:
To maintain the number of Class E - Restaurant for the total maximum number of Class E as 49.

BACKGROUND:
This request is presented in accordance with the 2011 amendment to the City's Liquor Ordinance, specifically Section 6-9(a), which charges the City Council with the authority to determine the number of licenses available in each classification.

DISCUSSION:
MZBD Inc d/b/a The Town Bar & Grill, located at 2681 E. New York Street, Aurora, Illinois, 60502 submitted a liquor license application seeking a Class E license for the purpose of selling to the general public alcoholic liquor by the drink for consumption on the premises where sold, and not for resale in any form, provided that such sales shall be only in conjunction with the sale of food for consumption on the premises.

The Town Bar and Grill is changing the officers within the current Corporation that currently owns the existing establishment, and has therefore applied for a new liquor license as per our city code.

Attached is the application submitted for your consideration. If approved, this resolution would increase the number of allowable liquor licenses as indicated in the accompanying Exhibit A to allow for the issuance of the license by the Commissioner. City staff has been working with the business owner to ensure that all requirements for a liquor license, as set forth in Chapter 6 of the City's Code of Ordinances, are met.

IMPACT STATEMENT:
The proposed resolution presents an opportunity to further the City of Aurora's economic development.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
I am recommending that this resolution be referred to the Government Operations Committee for consideration at its meeting to be held on October 13, 2015.
