Committee action involving the selection process to fill anticipated vacancies in staff positions in the Office of the Aldermen.

PURPOSE:
To review the selection process for filling vacant positions in the Aldermen's Office and also to approve the Chief of Staff job description.
BACKGROUND:
The Rules, Administration and Procedures Committee have the authority, based on Ordinance, to appoint staff in the Aldermen's Office. Currently, four Aldermanic Aides support twelve Aldermen and clerk five standing committees of the council.
DISCUSSION:
Two tenured employees are retiring in October and November of 2020; the Chief of Staff and one Aldermanic Aide. The RAP Committee is requesting that the Human Resources Department post the position of Chief of Staff and begin the selection process. In addition, a decision will be made as to whether or not the Aldermanic Aide position will be filled in 2020 or at a later date.
These two positions are budgeted for 2020 and 2021.

To authorize Human Resources to move forward with the posting and selection process as determined by the Rules, Administration and Procedures Committee.
