A Traffic Study for S. Eola Road from Hafenrichter Road to Wolfs Crossing. Ward 9, Alderman Bugg.
body
PURPOSE:
A Traffic Study for S. Eola Road from Hafenrichter Road to Wolfs Crossing to investigate the possibility of installing Pedestrian Crosswalk signage.
BACKGROUND:
A Resident submitted PS # 1988662 expressing concern that Eola drivers do not stop for pedestrians at pedestrian crosswalks and requested pedestrian crossing signage.
DISCUSSION:
S. Eola Road is four lanes with a center median. Speed limit for this arterial is 35 mph.
Intersections include: Daylight Drive; Sunrise Circle; Shiloh Drive; Shenandoah Drive; and Frost Drive. All five intersections have painted white crosswalks except Frost Drive. Only Shenandoah Drive has "Crosswalk Here" signage.
Marked crosswalks on arterials should have pedestrian crossing signage. As the City moves forward, it should be cautious in installing marked crosswalks on high volume multilane arterials outside of intersections with enhanced traffic control.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
Operations will be required to install pedestrian crosswalk signage at the three intersections
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends pedestrian crosswalk roadside signage at Daylight Drive, Sunrise Circle, and Shiloh Drive for Eola Road approaches only.
