Requesting approval to purchase the equipment of two internet routers from Sentinel Technologies Inc, 2550 Warrenville Road, Downers Grove, IL 60515, in the amount of $77,483.
PURPOSE:
The IT Department is requesting the purchase of two Cisco ASR1001-X internet routers. The ASR1001-X routers will replace the single 7604 router that failed on July 26, 2019 and caused an internet outage for the City of Aurora. The 7604 router is end-of-sale and end-of-support. We are requesting the purchase of two routers so we can have a primary/failover configuration in the event one goes down.
BACKGROUND:
The 7604 router was purchased in 2008 and is end-of-support and needs to be replaced. Having the two ASR1001-X will allow the IT Department to have redundant internet routers in the event one of the routers go down. This will help the IT Department to maximize up time on the City's internet connection.
Sentinel Technologies Inc, is a preferred reseller for Cisco Equipment and has provided an additional discount for this purchase. As such, Sentinel provides discounts not available elsewhere.
Staff recommends purchase in accordance with City Council approved resolution [R16-049] dated March 8, 2016 - "Requesting authority to purchase a five-year Cisco Systems SMARTnet support and maintenance agreement through Sentinel Technologies to be financed through Key Government Finance, Inc. in the amount of $452,271.80 annually." See attached affidavit recognizing Sentinel Technologies as the City's preferred reseller for Cisco equipment and services during the 5 year agreement.

DISCUSSION:
