The Aurora Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board is requesting permission to stage the annual Fiestas Patrias parade in downtown Aurora stepping off at 11:00 am on Sunday, September 17, 2017.

PURPOSE:
The purpose of Fiestas Patrias is to celebrate Mexican Independence Day. This is achieved with a downtown parade and festival at RiverEdge Park.
BACKGROUND:
This is the 8th continuous year Fiestas Patrias has been held in Aurora and the third year the AHHAB has coordinated the event. The parade will step off at 11:00 am from Benton and River Streets. The parade will utilize the approved Downer Place route with the reviewing stand located in front of the DLP Art & History Center. The units will stage along River Street from Benton to Gale.
DISCUSSION:
Parade organizers are responsible for distributing the Street Closure Notice to all affected businesses along the route and posting it in the elevator and hallways of multi-tenant buildings. Also the installation and removal of the no parking signs along the route. A detailed listing of organizer responsibilities is included at the end of the attached services request.
Insurance is supplied through the City of Aurora.
All expenses are budgeted out of account number 215-1341-450.50-57.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
Support from the following City Departments and Divisions is requested: APD, Streets, MVPS, Electrical, Water & Sewer, Downtown Maintenance and Special Events. A detailed list of services requested is included as an attachment.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
I request the proposed parade be forwarded to the Government Operations Committee for review and approval.
