A Resolution appointing Anthony Stanford and Mariana Ponce Hill to the Aurora Housing Authority Board.
PURPOSE:
The purpose of this memo is to recommend the appointments of Anthony Stanford and Mariana Ponce Hill to the Aurora Housing Authority Board.
DISCUSSION:
The Aurora Housing Authority Board is seven (7) member board tasked with providing oversight to the Aurora Housing Authority. Commissioners are recommended by the Mayor and approved by the Aurora City Council. There are currently two vacancies on the board, the appointments of Anthony Stanford and Mariana Ponce Hill will take the board back up to full capacity.
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Council approve the appointments of Anthony Stanford and Mariana Ponce Hill to the Aurora Housing Authority Board.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, two vacancies currently exists on the Aurora Housing Authority Board; and
WHEREAS, it is the Mayor's desire that the recommended candidates be appointed to said board.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, hereby approve the appointment of Anthony Stanford, Aurora, IL and Mariana Ponce Hill, Aurora, IL to the Aurora Housing Authority Board.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Anthony Stanford shall fill out the remaining term of resigning board member Henry Champen set to expire on September 30, 2015 and that Mr. Stanford's term shall automatically renew for a new four-year term set to expire on September 30, 2019; and Mariana Ponce Hill shall fill the vacancy left by Judy Runge whose term expired on September 30, 2013 and that Ms. Ponce Hill's four-year term shall therefore expire September 30, 2017, however, in any event, they shall continue to serve until their respective replacements have been approved by the Council.
