FROM:                     Wendy McCambridge, City Clerk

DATE:                     March 20, 2018

SUBJECT:

Resolution Establishing the Maximum Number of City of Aurora Liquor Licenses by Class.

PURPOSE:

To maintain the number of Class E-1 - Limited Menu Restaurant for a total maximum number of Class E-1 of 6..

BACKGROUND:

This request is presented in accordance with the 2011 amendment to the City's Liquor Ordinance, specifically Section 6-9(a), which charges the City Council with the authority to determine the number of licenses available in each classification.

DISCUSSION:

The Stolp Avenue, LLC d/b/a Leland Legends Bar & Grill, located at 1 South Stolp Avenue, Aurora, Illinois, 60506 submitted a liquor license application seeking a Class E-1 license for the purpose of selling to the general public alcoholic liquor by the drink for consumption on the premises where sold, and not for resale in any form, provided that such sales shall be only in conjunction with the sale of food for consumption on the premises.

Leland Legends is an existing establishment that will assume new ownership at the location in Spring 2018, and has therefore applied for a new liquor license as per our city code.

Attached is the application submitted for your consideration. If approved, this resolution would maintain the number of allowable liquor licenses as indicated in the accompanying Exhibit A to allow for the issuance of the license by the Commissioner. City staff has been working with the business owner to ensure that all requirements for a liquor license, as set forth in Chapter 6 of the City's Code of Ordinances, are met.

IMPACT STATEMENT:

The proposed resolution presents an opportunity to further the City of Aurora's economic development.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

I am recommending that this resolution be referred to the Government Operations Committee for consideration at its meeting to be held on March 27, 2018.
