SUBJECT:
The City of Aurora desires to purchase the property located at 64 - 66 N. LaSalle St., Aurora for the sum of $53,500.
PURPOSE:
The additional land acquired will give the City full control of the block bordered by Spring and New York Streets on the North and South Respectively-and Broadway and N. LaSalle Street on the East and West respectively. The contract calls for the seller to complete demolition prior to closing and the land will subsequently be used by the Aurora Fire Department and/or to expand the adjacent public parking.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is recommended the Finance Committee approve this item and move forward to the Tuesday, October 6, 2015 Committee of the Whole.

An Ordinance Authorizing the Purchase of Real Estate Located at 64 - 66 N. LaSalle St., Aurora, Illinois.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, the City desires to purchase the property commonly known as 64 - 66 N. LaSalle Street in accordance with the terms of a Contract For the Purchase and Sale of Real Estate, attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference as Exhibit “A”; and
WHEREAS, the 2015 City Budget provides up to $340,000 for this item in account number 340-1330-463.72-01 (Capital Improvements Fund A).
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, as follows: Section One: That the Mayor and City Clerk be and are hereby authorized to execute all necessary documents to effectuate the purchase of the real estate commonly known as 64 - 66 N. LaSalle St., Aurora, Illinois, in accordance with the terms of a copy of a Contract For the Purchase and Sale of Real Estate, which is attached hereto and made a part hereof as Exhibit “A”.
Section Two: That this ordinance shall be in full force and effect, and shall be controlling, upon its passage, approval and publication as provided by law.
Section Three: That all ordinances or parts of ordinances thereof in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of any such conflict.
Section Four: That any Section or provision of this Ordinance that is construed to be invalid or void shall not affect the remaining sections or provisions which shall remain in full force and effect thereafter.
