FROM:                     Wendy McCambridge, City Clerk

DATE:                     September 12, 2018

SUBJECT:

A Resolution Establishing the Maximum Number of City of Aurora Liquor Licenses by Class

PURPOSE:

To maintain the number of Class E - Restaurant licenses for a total maximum number of Class E as 43.

BACKGROUND:

This request is presented in accordance with the 2011 amendment to the City's Liquor Ordinance, specifically Section 6-9(a), which charges the City Council with the authority to determine the number of licenses available in each classification.

DISCUSSION:

El Autentico Jalisco, Inc., doing business as El Autentico Jalisco, 110 N. Lake Street, Aurora, 60506, submitted an application for the purpose of being able to sell to the general public alcoholic liquor by the drink for consumption on the premises where sold, and not for resale in any form, provided that such sales shall be only in conjunction with the sale of food for consumption on the premises.

The El Autentico Jalisco has held a Class F, beer and wine restaurant license since 2011. The restaurant would like to expand it’s alcohol offerings to include mixed drinks and tequila.

Attached is the application submitted for your consideration. If approved, this resolution would increase the number of allowable liquor licenses as indicated in the accompanying Exhibit A to allow for the issuance of the license by the Commissioner.

IMPACT STATEMENT:

The proposed resolution presents an opportunity to further the City of Aurora's economic development.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

I am recommending that this resolution be referred to the Government Operations Committee for consideration at its meeting to be held on September 25, 2018.
