Requesting approval to accept a donation of Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) equipment from Toyota Motor Sales, USA Inc. Chicago Parts Distribution Center
PURPOSE:
The Aurora Emergency Management Agency has a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) that assist with community events and is also a deployable team during disaster or emergencies. Toyota's offer to donate equipment will make positive impacts for the Aurora CERT program. .
BACKGROUND:
Mr. Paul Tegtmeier from the Toyota Motor Sales, Inc. Chicago Parts Division contacted the Aurora Emergency Management Agency to inquire if the agency would be willing to accept donated CERT equipment the company would not be using anymore. The equipment was viewed and deemed in good condition and operational. An inventory list was requested and received to identify all items to be donated. This donated equipment will be added to the current CERT equipment to improve both training and response readiness.
DISCUSSION:
The Toyota donation of CERT equipment will improve CERT Team readiness and also training capabilities for training community members. The Aurora Emergency Management Agency does have a CERT Trailer that the donated equipment will be maintained. There will not be any expenses occurred from this donation.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
The donation from the Toyota Motor Sales, Inc. Chicago Parts Distribution will have a positive impact on the Aurora Emergency Management Agency CERT program in the areas of training and emergency response for disasters.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
I request approval to accept the donated items from the Toyota Motor Sales, Inc. Chicago Parts Distribution Center.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, The City of Aurora Emergency Management agency has a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) that provides training to the community and also has disaster response capabilities.
WHEREAS, The Toyota Motor Sales, Inc. Chicago Parts Distribution Center has offered to donate Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) equipment to the City of Aurora the company will no longer be using.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, as follows: The Aurora Emergency Management Agency accept the donated Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) equipment from the Toyota Motor Sales, Inc. Chicago Parts Distribution Center.
