A resolution appointing Alderman Ted Mesiacos, Alderman Carl Franco, and Alderman Will White to the Aquatics Advisory Council.
BACKGROUND:
The Fox Valley Park District and the City of Aurora established a five-member volunteer board to oversee the Aquatic Centers (Phillips Park Aquatic Center and Splash Country Aquatic Center) in Aurora. The original agreement was established in 1989, amended in 1991 and restated in 2009.
DISCUSSION:
The five-member board is comprised of two representatives appointed by the Fox Valley Park District, two members appointed by the Aurora City Council, with the fifth “rotating Board member” appointed on an annual basis by either the city or the park district. The agreement stipulates the Park District has the majority of the board in even years, and the City has the majority in odd years. This being an odd year, three appointees are being nominated to represent the City.
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Council approve the appointment of Alderman Ted Mesiacos, Alderman Carl Franco and Alderman-at-Large Will White to the Aquatics Advisory Council.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, the Aquatics Advisory Council is in need of new members; and
WHEREAS, it being an odd-numbered year, the City is tasked with nominating three members; and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the appointees set forth in Exhibit A through C of this resolution possess the necessary qualifications to serve in the position to which they have been nominated.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, as follows that the appointment of the individuals listed in Exhibits A, B and C of this resolution shall be an hereby are approved.
