Request to accept the low bid from Schroeder Asphalt Services, P.O. Box 831, Huntley, IL 60142 for the site and parking lot improvements of the M-lot that is located at 50 N. LaSalle adjacent to the Aurora Historical Fire Museum in the amount not to exceed $115,000.00.
PURPOSE:
To improve the LaSalle street scape, green space and resurfacing of the M-lot.
BACKGROUND:
The M parking lot was scheduled for resurfacing in 2017. In addition, the parking lot will have drainage and base improvements. LaSalle Street's west sidewalk will be replaced from the M-lot's south entrance to the Central Fire Station truck entrance. The space between the M-lot and Central Fire Station lot will be cleared of construction debris, back filed with soil and seeded. This will be a green space in the CBD.
DISCUSSION:
Four contractors bid on this project. Schroeder Asphalt Services was the lowest compliant bidder. Schroeder has been used in the past and their work has met our expectations.
Account 520-4432-437.38-05 has funds reserved for this project.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
The M-lot will be closed during the construction. This is a 10-hour parking lot so no permits are sold. Any users will have to park in the other 10-hour lots in the CBD during construction.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
I'm requesting the approval to accept the low bid from Schroeder Asphalt Services, P.O. Box 831, Huntley, IL 60142 for the site and parking lot improvements of the M-lot that is located at 50 N. LaSalle adjacent to the Aurora Historical Fire Museum in the amount not to exceed $115,000.00.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, The M parking lot was scheduled for resurfacing in 2017; and
WHEREAS, the east sidewalk will be replace from the M-lot's south entrance to the Central Fire Station truck entrance. The space between the M-lot and Central Fire Station lot will be cleared of construction debris, back filed with soil and seeded. This will be a green space in the CBD; and
WHEREAS, Schroeder Asphalt Services, from Huntley, IL was the lowest bidder, and
WHEREAS, Funds are reserved in accounts 520-4432-437-38.05 for these repairs
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, as follows: The approval to accept the low bid from Schroeder Asphalt Services, P.O. Box 831, Huntley, IL 60142 for the site and parking lot improvements of the M-lot that is located at 50 N. LaSalle adjacent to the Aurora Historical Fire Museum in the amount not to exceed $115,000.00.
