A Resolution Authorizing the Appointment of Deborah Lang as the Assistant Corporation Counsel.
PURPOSE:
To obtain authorization to appoint Deborah Lang as the Assistant Corporation Counsel.
BACKGROUND:
In accordance with the City of Aurora Ordinance, the position is appointed by the Mayor with the consent of the City Council.
DISCUSSION:
Human Resources advertised and recruited for an Assistant Corporation Counsel on several websites. Thirty four (34) applications were received, nine applicants were chosen for initial interviews and 4 applicants had final interviews.
After a thorough assessment and consideration of education, skills and experience, Deborah Lang was selected for the position.
Deborah Lang has a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science from the University of Illinois and a Juris Doctor from Northern Illinois University. She has been working in the legal field since 2004. Deborah has experience in both the private and public sector, most recently working for the Kane County State's Attorney's Office. Having been born and growing up in Aurora, Deborah has strong ties to the city which will serve her well in the position given one of her primary responsibility' will be to serve as the community based prosecutor. Her background and working knowledge will be beneficial to moving the law department forward pursuant to future department objectives.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, the City of Aurora will be in need of an Assistant Corporation Counsel; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Council have determined that Deborah Lang, best meets the qualifications to fill said position.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, as follows: the Mayor is hereby authorized to appoint Deborah Lang to the position of Assistant Corporation Counsel.
