The Ward 1 Business Grant is a 50/50 match up to a maximum of $5,000.00 per project per year.
BACKGROUND:
Alderman Daniel Barreiro and the Ward 1 Committee will receive applications from business owners within Ward 1 for exterior and other improvements to their buildings or property, as approved by the Committee. Applications will be accepted on Ward 1 forms, reviewed, and approved subject to availability of the money within the Ward 1 Business Grant Program. Applicants must provide a minimum of three bids or estimates where possible for the proposed work, along with their application. All bids shall be obtained from contractors that pay the prevailing wage consistent with Illinois law, 820 ILCS 130 et. Seq. This program will not be extended past the current Alderman's term.
DISCUSSION:
$20,000.00 has been allocated for this program in the Ward 1 account 311-1350-419.50-99.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
Approval of the program will support business property owners and tenants to improve their buildings and enhance their appearance.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Approval of the Ward 1 Business Grant Program with the current guidelines.

A Resolution authorizing the Ward 1 Business Grant Program 50/50 match up to $5,000.00 per project per year for any qualifying businesses for the purpose of upgrading or improving the exterior of their property.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, the City Council, in the exercise of said home rule authority has empowered its Rules, Administration and Procedures Committee to from time-to-time adopt rules and policies governing the operations of the Office of the Aldermen; and
WHEREAS, the Ward 1 Business Grant Program was established to support with business enhancements and improvements to their buildings or property. A resolution authorizing the Ward 1 Alderman to receive, review, and approve requests for grants. A set of guidelines has been written to implement the grant program. $20,000.00, per calendar year, has been allocated for this program. Reimbursements for these projects will be paid out of the Ward 1 Grant account 311-1350-419.50-99.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Rules, Administration, and Procedures Committee acting pursuant to its final action authority conferred by Sec. 2-123(f)(1)(e) of the Code of Ordinances hereby approve the Resolution authorizing the Ward 1 Business Grant Program with the current guidelines.
